Great Italian Food at Giuseppe, Arnaldo & Sons

Giuseppe, Arnaldo & Sons (GAS) really do a spectacular job of cooking delicious Italian food.  I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve dined there, but I know I’ve never been disappointed.

Had a heartwarming winter dinner there, which started with wonderfully crispy ‘Baccala Fritto” Crispy Salt Balls, Aioli”.   Interesting flaky crispy texture filled with creamy potato with salty shreds of cod running through it.  Yum!

I can’t resist cured meat.  If I recall correctly, “Salumi Ossocullo” is a cut of meat from the neck of the pig.   It was tasty.

Given the Melbourne weather has been a bit cold and dreary, the “Risotto “alla Milanese”, Saffron, Minced Pork Sausage, Finished with Parsley & Bone Marrow” was the perfect homely and warm dish to counter the outside elements.  Rich in texture and flavour, with perfectly cooked rice.

The perfectly seasoned “Grass Fed Sirloin on the Bone 450 Grams Firm Texture, Full Flavoured, Parmesan Herb Crumbed Onion Rings” goes extremely well with a side of crunchy “Potaotes, Rosemary, Garlic”.

Dessert for the night was “Baked Chocolate Pot, Chocolate Pearls Served Chilled”.  It was creamy silky dark chocolate perfection.

Great atmosphere, good food.  Can’t wait to dine here again!

Boston Food Trucks and Lobster!

In the lovely city of Boston, surrounded by historic sights and endless amounts of clam chowder, I saw my first food trucks! There they were, like a mirage in the city, serving burgers and tacos! As an afternoon snack, the food was tasty and satisfying.

I was so excited to be in Boston… we went to Harvard for a day, walked the Freedom Trail, but most of all, we ate our hearts out!  Clam chowder, lobster, crab cakes… the list goes on!

First stop for seafood action was Tia’s Restaurant which is located near the waterfront.     Between the two of us, we chose to share the “Award Winning Boneless Buffalo Wings” followed by the “Baked Stuffed Lobster” with a side “Basket of Onion Rings“.   The buffalo wings and onion rings were average but the stuffed lobster was awesome!  It was half a pound of lobster, stuffed with crab meat, scallops, shrimp and buttered cracker crumbs.  It also comes with fries and coleslaw.  It was sensational!

Boston is known for clam chowder, and upon a few recommendations (including local’s in Boston) we decided to try Legal Sea Foods.   There are numerous outlets in Boston, and we went to the one by the waterfront.  The clam chowder (apologies, I don’t have a pic of it) was too creamy for my taste.  We also had the crab cakes – which were amazing!   It was a whole lump of crab meat, with a creamy mustard.

Rockin’ Onion Rings at Rockpool

In my opinion the best onion rings in Melbourne are at Rockpool…  They are crispy, juicy, salty golden deliciousness.    Time and time again I’ve found myself here for the Onion Rings and Potato Puree, which is silky potato perfection.

If you’re a bit strapped for cash, and can’t afford to pay $60 for a steak, the bar menu is an affordable alternative.  Winners on the menu include the famous “David Blackmore’s Full Blood Wagyu Hamburger with Bacon, Gruyere Cheese and Zuni Pickle” and “Wood Fire Grilled Fillet Minute Steak with Café de Paris Butter“.

A recent addition to the bar menu is the “Beef and Guiness Pie with Mushy Peas” which was phenomenal!  Melt in your mouth beef bathing in tasty sauce encased in a crusty buttery pie pastry.   Beware: it is super tasty.

We had dessert…. “Dark Chocolate Pudding Tart with Chocolate Sorbet“.   It was superb!   Dark chocolate tart – slightly bitter and salty with a light sweet sorbet.   Sooo good!

I’ve been here at least once a month for the last 12 months, so without a doubt this is one of my fav places to dine in Melbourne!
